Christ Church Clock Faces Restoration
A very big THANK YOU!
We are very pleased to report that the restoration of the three faces of our historic tower clock is now complete.
I am sure that you will agree that Terry Hill of Hills Tower Clocks, Methley, has done an excellent job, and the clock now looks resplendent in traditional blue and gold as it would have been when first installed in 1831.
This would not have been possible without the extraordinary generosity of members of the congregation and local residents.
We are indebted to both the Sir John Priestman Trust who gave us a grant for approximately 25% of the cost and the Benefact Trust who provided a grant for approximately 15% of the cost. We are also very grateful to Design Glass of Brighouse who repaired broken glass in the small windows at the centre of each dial and who also created a completely new window for the west dial to replace the missing original.
Whilst the scaffolding was in place we took the opportunity to repair the windows on the first and second floors of the tower as well as repairing broken slates, flashing and rainwater goods to the main church roof.
Thanks are of course due to everyone involved in the project but most of all thanks to all of you who contributed so generously.
